As a San Diego photographer, rain can definitely mess with some plans! On the bright side, it’s really only a few days a year and it has been bringing some gorgous scenery all around! As a mom of two boys, I’m always looking for something to do to keep my kids entertained. Even during the bad weather days. Luckily, San Diego is full of really awesome places to take kids all year round. I’ve put together a long list of several fun rainy day activities for kids in San Diego!
Visiting the Birch Aquarium is a perfect rainy day activity in San Diego! Birch Aquarium features more than 60 habitats of fishes and other animals and is mostly all indoor except for the petting area outside. If its not too rainy, the view from outside is really stunning! I like this aquarium because there are tons of things to look at but it is also very small, so it doesn’t take too long to see everything. A new addition at this aquarium are the pengiuns! Kids will love this rainy day activity in San Diego!
Looking for something REALLY fun to take your kids to? Head downtown, (or to their satalite location in Del Mar) to the New Childrens Museum! This place is amazing and huge. Your kids will be happily enteratined for hours, and I bet you’ll love the scenery too! This museum has 3 stories full of interactive exibits made from local artist. Your kids will have fun climbing, sliding, building, playing, and creating throughout the museum. There are even several great areas for the little ones to climb and have sensory experiences.
My family loves G3 Kids! Sign your child up for an open gym time or one of their great classes at any of the 3 locations of G3 Kids throughout San Diego. G3Kids is a gymnastics-based athletic program and interactive learning academy. This gymnastics studio in San Diego offers traditional and trendy gymnastics classes while ensuring safety and fun exploration. In an effort to reach a child’s highest potential for growth, they emphasize maximizing brain stimulation through physical activity. G3Kids, a children’s active learning center, teaches grit, grace and growth in confidence while maximizing brain stimulation through a kinaesthetic learning method; active bodies equal growing minds.
Get ready for a whole new way to play at our one-of-a-kind active entertainment park. Does your child have endless energy like mine do? Rainy days and staying inside are tough for them, but heading over to an indoor trampoline park sounds like the perfect place to get all their energy out! Get Air Poway has everything a jumper could dream for; wall to wall tramplines, a ball pit, ninja obstacles and more! Pro Tip: Have a toddler? The entire park is open to little kids (under 46″) and their parents every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 AM to Noon!
The Plunge made my list for some of the best swim school lessons in San Diego! Plunge San Diego is a historic landmark known to be one of the largest pools in Southern California. The aesthetics reflect floor to ceiling windows and a retractable roof, allowing swimmers to enjoy the warm San Diego weather year round. While heading to the beach for a swim isn’t a great idea on a rainy day, the plunge is the perfect place to hop in the water!
A classic rainy day activity in San Diego is heading to the movies! Going to an IMAX theater is definitely a memorable experience for you and your children to have together! Heading to the movies during the day is a great way to kill some time while its raining!
Balboa park is such an awesome, beautiful place to be any time of year. When its raining I especially like to head into some of the great museums. My favorites for kids are the Fleet Science Center, San Diego Natural History Museum, San Diego Air & Space Museum, and the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. Every first Tuesday of the month one of the museums is free for local San Diego residents, hopefully it works out on a rainy day!
I hope this list of rainy day activities in San Diego kids will help you plan out some fun adventures with your kids!
Keep in mind, rain brings greenery and flowers, yay! Spring and summer are gorgous times for a family photo session. I would love to help you document your family! Contact me today to schedule a session!
