San Diego is one of the most beautiful cities in the country (if not the world.) It’s only natural to want to take advantage of its incredible views, waterfront, and weather with a day at a beautiful park. These are some of the best parks in San Diego for a gorgeous day outside with the entire family!
Firstly, Tecolote Shores North is a newly renovated park with some exceptional waterfront views. Tucked into a curve of one of San Diego’s most popular bike and walking paths is an exceptional new playground and an adult fitness center. The huge playground has plenty of swings, slides, and equipment to climb and explore. There is also a central comfort station with plenty of shade, a rinse-off shower, and some picnic tables for a breezy lunch on the go. It’s a park with something for everyone, whether you’re looking for some great play time, a jog by the water, or a challenging workout.
Close to museums, attractions, and the gorgeous (and delicious) Liberty Public Market, Liberty Station Park is a great place for playing, exploring, and enjoying the great outdoors. There’s a basketball court, various fields perfect for games and special events, and comfort stations with restrooms and drinking fountains. Additionally, families will love the two Tot Lot playgrounds, with plenty of equipment for exploring, playing, and getting plenty of fresh air.
Moonlight State Beach got its name over a hundred years ago when residents used to visit for midnight picnics in the light of the moon. Today, this gorgeous beach offers plenty of opportunities for swimming, surfing, fishing, and other water-based activities. If you want to stay dry, you can take advantage of the park’s volleyball and tennis courts! There’s also a snack bar to refuel after a long day of playing in the sunshine.
The Maruta Gardner Playground at Bonita Cove Park is hands down one of the coolest playgrounds in San Diego. It’s a newer space with plenty of fantastic upgrades and equipment. They have a variety of swings (tandem swings, regular swings, bucket swings, and ADA swings). Their incredible climbing structure was designed to look like the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster nearby. It also features a great rope course for older kids. Furthermore, little kids will love the Tot Lot, with plenty of equipment, just the right size for little hands and legs.
Lastly, Old Poway Park allows guests to experience the area’s historic beauty. It’s home to some beautiful pathways and plenty of rolling green lawns begging for a picnic. The park is also home to a Saturday morning farmers market, perfect for a stroll and picking up local produce and handmade treasures. The Heritage Museum offers visitors a look into life in early 20th-century California, and on weekends, you can take a ride around the park on the Poway Midland Railroad!
Pack up your picnic basket and sunscreen and head out to one of these parks! I truly believe these are the best parks in San Diego, and whether you are local or visiting, you’ll love a day at the park. Check it out and see for yourself!
