Extended Family Photo Session in San Diego
It’s a big deal to get the family together! As a family photographer, it is really special to be able to document people with the ones they love the most. One of my favorite types of sessions are Extended Family Photo Sessions. An Extended Family Photo Session is one session with multiple families. An extended family portrait session is a wonderful way to document special moments with loved ones you might not see very often. My extended family sessions are just a little bit different than our classic family portrait sessions. Here is what you can expect as well as some tips to help you prepare for an extended family portrait session with Mattie Taylor Photography.
What To Expect During Your Session
During your extended family photo session, we usually start with one big group photo, since this is usually the most important and desired shot from the whole session. Don’t be worried about ensuring everyone is smiling and looking at the same time. I’ll be honest, with large groups and espcially with kids – it’s nearly impossible! For every session I put in additional editing (thanks headswapping on photoshop) to ensure you get that picture perfect image from your dreams. If it feels like magic, it totally is!
From there, we move onto the different combinations of poses and shots. This is where things get really fun! I’ll work with you before our session together to make a list of important images that we will want to get during your session. Ideas include: grandparents with grandkids, all the girls together, all the siblings, etc…
After we get through our list, I am able to get individual family portraits of each family in the session, as well as headshots of the kids (and anyone else who wants one!). This is what makes these extended family sessions such an amazing deal! Everyone is able to get their own photos for this years holiday cards!
Afterwards to finish the session, I like to get the entire group together one last time for another group photo. Just to give you some variety in your gallery!
